Immediately after passing through the Riviera del Conero I headed to Matera, as a point of support to head to Alberobello (if you go to Salento and pass through these places you can not visit!) passed the beautiful Ostuni from the white houses I headed Towards the first point of support in Salento; Porto Cesareo.

Sleep

The best choice is surely to sleep in the Sassi of Matera, I opted for a B&B called the House of the sun, not too expensive (on 40) and very cute inside

Do

In a city so beautiful if your intention is to stay a single night I recommend to turn it far and wide, taking advantage of its thousand glimpses to take beautiful photographs.

Eat

Turning a little bit inside the city of Sassi you can find some characteristic restaurants with a nice atmosphere.

  • Alberobello

Alberobello

A quick visit to the Trulli of Alberobello (although Locorotondo is altrettando nice and less crowded) with possibilities in some Trulli to climb up to the roof to enjoy the view of the town.

  • Polignano a Mare

Polignano a mare

I would say to avoid in August:)

  •  Porto Cesareo

Porto-Cesareo

First leg of the tour (and base)
You can stay in a rented house by agency or Airbnb. The choice is very extensive but I recommend to book a few months earlier to find the best occupations.
If you prefer something a little more special not far from here is a farm not so expensive and very nice; Masseria La Scaledda with proposals for special rooms like “La stable”.

To try are the pastries in the pastry shops of the long sea, with a variety of many tastes. For other tips on food I refer you to Paperblog and his post.

We report the Island Beach Club, Brauhaus Pub, Bahia del Sol Disco (in the nearby Torre Pillai), and absolutely the Guarana Lounge Bar

  •  Otranto

Otranto-trip-map. jpg

Here a list of restaurants divided by category (Risto, pizzeria etc)
I recommend the excellent pizzeria in the centre where in addition to exquisite pizzas you can taste Apulian specialties; I recommend going there early, as you enter for reservation in order of arrival; If you want to spend less, just move to the neighboring countries where the prices of restaurants are more accessible; So you can also visit new very characteristic places; If you want to go even further, an evening can be dedicated to the visit of S. Maria di Leuca, a purely baroque city that has in the center a whole series of small restaurants where the fish is very fresh. (Review by Renato)

Surely the three main attractions are the cathedral, the old town, the bauxite quarry and the Bay of the Turks.
If you turn around the city, you will come across the typical shops where you can find pasta and taralli sweets of all tastes!

The bauxite quarry has its own attractiveness, it seems to be in another country

  • Lecce

Lecce

A quick half day visit to Lecce, enough to visit it calmly in (it is not a hectic city and I have not met crowds)

The streets of the centre of Lecce are an open-air museum. An example is the splendid Piazza del Duomo, which houses the Duomo or Cathedral of Maria SS. Assunta-With a bell tower and two facades, one very sober and the other richly decorated-the episcopal palace, of the Renaissance period, with its splendid loggia, and the palace of the seminary, particular for the façade decorated with ashlar and the characteristic cloister Internal.
