Jordan ; in how many days to visit it? If you fly to Jordan, my advice is definitely to visit it in several stages, for a total period of between 5 and 7 days.
What to see in Jordan
The site that takes the longest is certainly that of Petra , so much so that you can spend a couple of days there depending on whether you want to walk around the site or see everything up close and in detail.
At the Dead Sea it is also possible to make a quick stop by purchasing a sort of “day spa” ticket at one of the hotels (this is the only way to access its waters) or to stay in one of the hotels on the shore.
One of the most famous places is certainly Wadi Rum , also known as the “Valley of the Moon”; a sort of desert with the Lunar features where it is possible to stay nowadays in bubble rooms or tented camps.
Finally, if you opt for the week-long tour, don’t forget to visit the Jerash site .

Information on how to organize your trip to Jordan
I made the trip to Jordan thanks to a guided tour , and the offers for this destination are so many. The important thing is to rely on some guide whose reviews precede it, in order to avoid unpleasant inconveniences (obviously valid advice in all trips around the world).
I went in a difficult period, that of Covid , and if you find yourself there, these are some of the information you should know before going to Jordan. In fact, if you do not have travel insurance with coverage for Covid as well, you will be denied boarding! (You can easily take out a policy with Columbus Assicurazioni – find the form at the bottom of this site)
Here is a list of general information:
- Flights : there are many low cost flights that depart from Bergamo. Prices start from 30 euros
- Climate : don’t be fooled by the desert photos, the temperature range is just around the corner! Bring everything from short-sleeved shirts to a heavy coat. Read also: How to organize your suitcase for a trip to Jordan
- Food : rice and meat, but also many vegetable appetizers.
- Other info : adapters are not needed, better not to drink the water from the sinks, the hot water in the desert in some fields is turned off at 9 pm, the wifi in medium-high hotels almost never takes well but I would not recommend even a card local …, better exchange money in the city at ATMs, bargain on the prices of souvenirs.
- Costs : high, Jordan is very expensive! coffee about 2-3 euros, alcoholic drinks (ah, obviously being a Muslim country, alcohol is not drunk, but some tourist places offer them) at Milan prices (7-9 euros), buffet about 15 euros.
- Getting around: Having taken a guided tour I have no idea how it is possible to get around differently, but it’s still not something I suggest. You don’t want your car to stop in the desert
Below is the map of the itinerary we have done (even if the stages are not in this order).
Where can you buy single itineraries? You can take a look here:
Amman
To visit Jordan we flew to Amman, but it is also possible to land in Aqaba . The best spot for a general look at Amman is definitely the Citadel; from here it is possible to see most of the hills of the city and the incredible expansion it has had in recent years. The traffic here is fierce, so consider taking more time to get to the city from one side to the other.
What to do nearby? With this tour you can do the classic tour visiting the city on a private excursion and then Gerasa and Ajlun Castle.
Mount Nebo
Not to be missed for its religious significance but not only; from here in fact you have a view over a large part of the territory up to the Dead Sea. We are located about 800 meters above sea level. From here it is said that Moses saw the Holy Land.
Also in this case you can buy the excursion to see the city of Madaba (famous for its mosaics) and stop at Mount Nebo.
Wadi Rum
The beauty of this desert is to explore its rocks and admire the stars at night, perhaps inside one of those “bubble room” hotels with large windows.
To explore the area you definitely need to purchase a jeep trip. The rental is about 100 euros, divided by the number of participants. On Civitatis it is possible to book a tour that includes the visit of Aqaba and the jeep tour to Wadi Rum at an acceptable price.
Alternatively on GetYourGuide you will find:
Little Petra, Petra and Petra by Night
A bit of clarity on everything that can be visited in this area:
Little Petra is a minor site, which does not require payment of a ticket as it is for Petra (around 60 euros – or alternatively included in the Jordan Pass) and which is still worth a visit.
Petra by Night consists of an organized evening (which takes place on different days of the week) to experience the magic of the Petra site even at night. It is an evening that attracts many visitors, lasting 2 hours including 30 minutes of show (songs and sounds once you arrive in front of the most famous facade). What I liked the most was the route, because once we arrived at our destination we found ourselves crowded with many other people (instead of dividing the show perhaps into 2 or 3 entrances). Furthermore, the lighting is not exactly like what you can find on Google (photos follow).
Petra, on the other hand, is a much larger site than expected (for those who are used to seeing only the image of the most famous facade) and deserves a full day to visit it all. If you are looking for a place for better shots, then my advice is to overcome the 800 steps that separate you from the Monastery.
Here you will find a tour for a group excursion to Petra , or from Amman a full-day private tour to Petra with pickup .
Dead Sea
Also in this case, reality is always very different from how you imagine it. In Jordan, my feeling was that everything was organized “for tourists”. To take a dip in the Dead Sea, you will have to stay at one of the hotels that line the site or buy a day ticket.
Attention, there are precise rules to follow when diving in this sea! In fact, it is not new on its stomach, risking that the water will unfortunately end up in your eyes, but you can experience the fun of floating without the need for any effort.
So, did I persuade you to take this 7 days tour in Jordan?
